Karen houses are generally one large room every eats, sleeps and works in this common area. Here a massage is given after hard days work while waiting for rice to cook.

Often seen in the west around Christmas, the poinsetta is a traditional hedge and protective fence for Karen village. The bright red flowers clearly establish the entrance.

Moving from village to village often by mountain river requires the ability to manufactor your ride on the spot! Here a Karen friend makes the raft to carry us to next village and him to market.

And after a short walk...we see another karen village through the trees. Easily missed if you did not look closely. The Karen as a rule value remote and fairly secluded locations for villages. Too much traffic and they will simply move.
