The mission of the International Thai Therapists Association, Inc. , National Thai Yoga, Massage and Bodywork Certification and Acreditation Board (NTYMBCB) has been, since 1992, first and foremost, protection of the health and welfare of the public. As an independent, not-for-profit corporation, the NTYMBCB successfully established and administered a nationwide program for certification of "THAI YOGA THERAPISTS", "THAI YOGA PRACTITIONER", THAI YOGA INSTRUCTOR", "THAI YOGA INSTRUCTOR ADVANCED', THAI YOGA MASTER INSTRUCTOR', "SOMAVEDA YOGA PRACTITIONER'. "SOMAVEDA YOGA THERAPISTS", "SOMAVEDA YOGA INSTRUCTOR", "THAI MASSAGE THERAPISTS", "THAI MASSAGE MASTER PRACTIONER", "THAIMASSAGE INSTRUCTOR ADVANCED", "THAI MASSAGE MASTER INSTRUCTOR" , under the guidance of the National Board of Thai Yoga, Massage and Bodywork Examiners (NBTYMBE).
The following criteria was developed and administered:
(A) methods of evaluation and validation of the knowledge and proficiency required in each category;
(B) examinations to test the knowledge and proficiency of applicants;
(C) the proper designation to those practitioners meeting the criteria and proficiency for each certified category.
In 2005 NTYMBCB became International in scope. In so doing the NTYMBCB promised to continue to uphold the stated mission by guidance of the following principles:
1. Ensure fairness, accuracy, validity and integrity in the future development and administration of the certification program.
2. Build public confidence in the quality and credibility of the Thai Massage health care community.
3. Engage in research that clarifies the full range of professional activities and validates the competencies essential for every naturopathic practitioner.
4. Ensure that NTYMBCB credentialing meets the highest standards of measurements and competency assessment as defined by experts in the Thai Massage field.
5. Support the safe, proficient, competent practice of Traditional Thai Yoga and Traditional Thai Medical Massage "Thai Massage", and the willingness and capacity of the Thai Yoga and or Thai Massage practitioner to improve. The certification process is a lifelong tool for the development of Thai Yoga Therapists and Instructors.
6. Involve the public in continuous review of the competence, practice, and contributions of Thai YogaTherapists and Instructors, to the betterment of world health care.
7. Issue creditable, professional certification for the practice of Thai Yoga, Thai Massage and Thai Based Somatic Practices Such as SomaVeda BET, as well as recognize, certify and accredit Instructors and schools teaching Thai Massage and Bodywork.
