As you may know, March 10 is the 45th commemoration of Tibetan National
Uprising Day. On this day in 1959, Tibetan public resistance to China's
invasion and occupation culminated in a mass protest in Lhasa, Tibet's
capitol. Hundreds of thousands of Tibetan men, women and children
surrounded the Potala Palace to protect the life of His Holiness the
Dalai Lama, who was believed to be under threat by the Chinese forces.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was forced to flee Tibet under cover of
darkness, and Chinese troops brutally suppressed the uprising, killing
tens of thousands of Tibetans. In honor of the brave Tibetans who lost
their lives on March 10, 1959, and in the days afterward, Tibetans and
their supporters commemorate March 10 each year with demonstrations and
vigils around the world.

Please take action for Tibet on Wednesday, March 10. Join hundreds of
thousands of Tibetans and supporters across the globe in honoring
Tibet's courageous resistance fighters and in calling for the release of
all Tibetan political prisoners and the restoration of Tibetan
independence.

If you live in or near a city with a Chinese consulate or embassy,
please visit our website at
http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/article.php?id=203&; to find out if
there is a demonstration you can join on March 10.

Every year on March 10 Tibetans and Tibet supporters gather in front of
the Chinese Consulate in Chicago to commemorate the 1959 Lhasa Uprising.
The March 10th protest will take place around 10am in the morning.
Everyone will gather at Water Tower (downtown Michigan avenue) for a
rally. After spending about 20 minutes at the water tower, the protest
march will take place and move along side the Michigan Street shouting
protest slogans. Much more will then take place at the Chinese
Consulate.

If you do not live near a Chinese embassy or consulate, here are some
things you can do in honor of March 10:

Take part in SFT's email action alert, which we will send out on that
day.

Gather some of your friends and family members and have an
awareness-raising vigil in a public place (e.g. a park or the town
square). Hand out information about Tibet and/or Tenzin Delek Rinpoche,
which you can download at
http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/article.php?id=108.

Phone the Chinese embassy in your country and tell them to free Tenzin
Delek Rinpoche and free Tibet. To find the Chinese embassy in your
country, please visit
http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zwjg/2490/default.htm.

Invite some friends to your house and tell them why March 10 is a
special day. Ask them to sign a petition for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche,
which you can download at
http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/article.php?id=108.

Write an editorial or letter to the editor about Tibet and the situation
there and submit it to your local newspaper.
