Curriculum and Individual Course Guide:

Intro Course: "A taste of SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga", 3 hours CEU.

In this 3 hour "taste of Thai Yoga " course, students are introduced to the practice of Thai Yoga Massage. Through demonstration and hands-on practice you will gain first hand experience of both giving and receiving a Thai Yoga Massage. An invaluable introduction to those wishing to learn more or perhaps begin studying with the Thai Yoga Center School, you will learn a 20-minute form that incorporates the fundaments of Thai Yoga Massage. Please note that students are not required to take this course prior to starting certification programs.

After completing this course, students will know how to:

1) Know the role of loving kindness in Thai Yoga sessions.

2) Perform a basic 20 minute Thai Yoga Massage session.

3) Incorporate the fundamentals of flowing transitions between postures.

4) Maintain proper body alignment & stances that create a mutually beneficial massage for practitioner & recipient.

5) Integrate "Metta" (compassion) and meditation into your work.

SomaVeda™ Fundamentals of Thai Yoga & Massage ™ (SomaVeda™ Level One: Approved CEU FSBMT, MSBMT)

A Two day introduction to the SomaVeda™ Basic Thai approaches to health and healing.

Prerequisites: This class is open to any and all persons and students from any background or level of training. Thai Yoga and massage is founded on the ancient Indian principles of Ayurveda "The Science of Life", it promotes health through balanced and conscious living. A basic introduction to SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga, this intensive is suitable for new students or practitioners seeking an alternative modality from a spiritual perspective. Thai Yoga and massage incorporates elements of mindfulness, gentle rocking, deep stretching and rhythmic compression to create a singular healing experience. Expect to gain tremendous insight into you daily practice. The course covers the basic concepts of hands on healing in a balanced session. This Yoga derived system allows the practitioner or teacher to gain a three dimensional perspective on facilitating and participating in another's healing process.

· During this course the student establishes contact with a genuine lineage and learns how to facilitate the healing energy of the ancient masters through the practice of Puja or healing affirmations.

· After completing this course, students will: the student can perform a complete 19 Asana beginner Vinyasa or flow with a partner. The student will be able to perform a one hour SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Massage.

· Understand the basic elements of the theory of Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology.

· Understand Basic Theory: Seven Chakras, Ten Sen or Prana Nadis, Wind Gates, Asanas or therapeutic postures, Meridian's and Acupoints, Understand the concept of body work as a meditation, The Five Traditional Treatment Attitudes of the body, Know and understand indications and contraindications for specific postures, Major clinical applications for use in clinical or professional treatment environment.

The level one class covers basic techniques and concepts from the three primary traditions of Thai Massage including the Royal method, the Northern Style and the Buddhai Sawan school. All Thai Yoga Classes begin with daily Hatha Yoga and or Reishi Yoga and warm-ups. ( 16 to 60 Hr. practice credit available depending on schedule, clinical and practice hours if any.)

Important Note! We consider this class to be a Sophisticated Beginner Class. Graduates at this level should under no circumstances consider themselves to be professionals or present their practice to the public as professionals. These classes are meant for educational purposes only and do not purport to make any medical recommendations. However, this class when practiced in conjunction with all of the SomaVeda™ provides a very firm and substantial foundation from which to become a professional! SomaVeda™ Ayurvedic Thai Yoga Massage ™ (SomaVeda™ Level Two: Approved CEU MSBMT)

(Southern Method, A 6 to 10 day program) Continuing the work begun in Level One . The student is introduced to the 50 plus traditional therapeutic Asana. The SomaVeda™ Therapeutic day concept and session protocol incorporating the seven additional Vinyasa, flowing sequences or treatment algorithms as well as additional practice in the meditation and healing forms of the oldest, original, and most traditional Wat Po or Wat Chetaphon based method. More commonly known as the Southern or Royal Method we explore variations from three different recognized or traditional Royal traditions: Buddhai Sawan, Wat Po and Anantasuk schools.

The course is predominately hands on, with a thorough introduction to the underlying philosophy and theory of energy. “Sip Sen”, the Ten principle Sen or Nadis and the Seven Chakra. Basic western anatomy and physiology as it applies to SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga is introduced at this time.

The SomaVeda™ student learns the concept of moving the body without effort, as well as specific postures for specific imbalances. The role of the breath in partnership within the therapeutic encounter is discussed and practiced intently. This course focuses of the use of Puja or therapeutic affirmations and Mantra in the healing process as originally introduced in the SomaVeda™ Level One course.

We look in depth at the historical roots of the treatment phillosophy . All SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Classes begin with daily Hatha Yoga and or SomaVeda™ Thai Reishi Yoga meditation and practice. By conclusion of this program we expect the student to show knowledge , understanding and skill in the basic techniques of SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga. ( 40 to 150 Hr. practice credit available depending on schedule, clinical and practice hours if any.)

SomaVeda™ Nuat Boran Northern Style Thai Yoga and Thai Massage: Level Three: Approved CEU MSBMT (Same as Nuad Boran Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 as taught at Old Medicine School, ITM of Chiangmai etc.)

Continuing the work begun in SomaVeda™ Level One and Two. There is no- prerequisite for attendance and certification in this class, however, Level Two "SomaVeda™ Ayurvedic Thai Massage" is highly recommended. Explore in detail the Chinese and Hill tribe influence on hands on healing, by learning the eight basic flows of the SomaVeda™ Northern method. These flow although similar to those of of the ITM and Old medicine Hospital Traditions are taught in a manner and context with suppliental information unique to the SomaVeda™ program. Normally taught in Thailand in ten days we have cultivated the "Express" version for western students and present the same and more information in only seven days! Understanding of the Energetic Anatomy and Physiology, Ten principle Sen or Nadis and Chakras is deepened. Basic western anatomy and physiology as it applies to the SomaVeda™ Nuad Boran is introduced at this time. The role of the breath in partnership within the therapeutic encounter is discussed and practiced more intently. The course is predominately hands on, with a thorough introduction to the underlying philosophy and theory of energy. This course focuses of the use of Puja or intentional affirmations and Mantra in the healing process. This course originates from the Shivago lineage and we will learn and practice the Om Namo Mantra every day. This class is "hands on" and quite intensive. It is designed to take your SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga and Massage experience to a higher level. If this course is facilitated by Aachan James, advanced practitioner's will also benefit from the intensive tutoring and corrective guidance of a Master Instructor. Additional Oriental and Western Anatomy and Physiology in introduced.

The Northern style is the most Yang variation of the traditional SomaVeda™ Thai yogic healing methods. In this course we will catalog more than two times the number of individual techniques as found in SomaVeda™ Level Two, that’s over 100 different Asana or Therapeutic postures. The course includes SomaVeda™ Thai reflexology treatment for the Hands and Feet as well as the basics of the SomaVeda™ Thai Style On-Site Chair massage certification program. Learn the Feet and leg lines, Supine position, Side Lying Position, Prone Position, Leg Stretching and Abdominal as well as the famous SomaVeda™ seated position treatment methods and flow. During this seven day intensive there is additional practice of the meditative and spiritual aspects of training ie: Vipassana ( Insight Meditation) and Puja. This course completes the students basic compliment of working tools. Over 100 distinctive Asana or therapeutic postures are covered in detail. Lines, Wheels and Points, Energy Anatomy and Ayurveda of Thai Yoga and Thai Massage ™ (SomaVeda™ Level Four)

A survey and introduction of the SomaVeda™ Energetic Anatomy and Physiology treatment theory and Basic assessments. The specific focus is on the Vajrayanna Yogic theories of Cosmology, Elemental Theory (Lom, Fai, Din, Naam), Constitutional types, bodytypes, Tri-Doshas, Discerning Dosha Types, Humors and Lom (Winds), Understanding and locating Sip Sen ( prana nadis), Seven Primary Chakras, Important or key treatment points, Windgates. The student is also introduced to the practical aspects of SomaVeda™ Thai Ayurvedic theory and practice through traditional Assessments. We demonstrate, learn and practice the first seven traditional assessments including Elemental, Dosha, Pulse, Tongue, Skin, Sen and Basic Chakra Astrology. The student learns how to design specifically appropriate sessions for every client. Concepts and practice of re-assessment to track or chart client progress over time are covered. SomaVeda™ This course makes complex SomaVeda™ Thai Yogic theory plain and simple. All Thai Yoga Classes begin with daily SomaVeda™ Hatha Yoga and or SomaVeda™ Reishi Yoga. SomaVeda™ Level Five: A & B, Clinical Applications and Development of specific programs for Clients based on Vedic Assessments and Guidelines.

Continuing development and practice of basic evaluation skills, assessments and procedures are continued. All 22 fundamental assessments are explained, demonstrated and practiced to develop competency and comfort. Use of intake examination and assessment to develop specific and appropriate session protocols are examined in detail. Students are introduced to the three Vedic constitutional variations (Vata Balancing, Pita Balancing and Kapha Balancing) for the Therapeutic Day Program. All Seven Primary Vinyassa Flows are restructured and practiced with specific Dosha balancing for type. All fifteen basic Vinyassa from Level One to Level Four are re-conceptualized within the context and practice of Dosha, Sen and Chakra Balancing sessions. Included in this course will be practice on Mat, Tabe and Chair. This course includes additional review and practice of all primary flows and techniques preparing the student for professional practice on the public.

SomaVeda™ Pancha Karma Specialists Certification Program, Part A. (Level Six: Introduction to SomaVeda™ Pancha Karma and Balancing Detoxification Programs)

In this five day intensive program specific strategies for developing and performing complex, sophisticated and specific treatments and programs for balancing the Tri-Dosha are explained, demonstrated and practiced for competency. The student learns the traditions Asana applications for Vata Dosha, Pita Dosha and Kapha Dosha as well as for each of the Sip Sen (Ten Yoga Nadi). All previous course work is integrated into an eclectic and practical method of healing. Major aspects of integrating SomaVeda™ into various professional therapeutic settings or Yoga teaching/counseling, personal coaching models etc. are covered. Special development strategies and SomaVeda™ Thai Algorythms for commonly encountered problems such as chronic pain of the head, neck, back, shoulder and extremeties as well as support for serious conditions such as Cancer and AIDS are covered in detail.

Intermediate SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Tri-Dosha Balancing Algorythms for all primary dosha will be presented with therapeutic applications. Deepen your understanding of specificity, asana release, facilitated Prana Yama and release techniques for the dosha. The SomaVeda™ Pancha Karma treatment protocol is discussed, demonstrated and practiced. Students in this level are required to actually receive a full SomaVeda™ Pancha Karma Detox session from beginning to end. Based on Thai, Tibetan and Indian detox sessions, this type of healing work is found described among the oldest recorded protocols for correcting, cleansing and detoxification of the body/mind/ spirit. All five components will be practiced: Mat, Chair, Table, Steam, Application of Herbs and Oils, Herbal Wraps and Shirodhara The Level Six program also contains the following: SomaVeda™ Vibrational Essences and Aromatherapy concepts are introduced. 3) SomaVeda™ Nuad Samun Prai and Planetary Herbology: Combining training and certification in Traditional Thai Herbology and use of herbs for health and wellness with our American Herbalists Guild Approved general herbology certification program. Not only do we study Thai Herbology, we study principles and uses from Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Native American sources. Students are to see, study and use herbs from the gardens and wild native fields to in house preparation, formulation and making of remedies to actually using the steamed herbs, hands on. 4) Earth Wisdom and Sciences Programs: A variety of programs and conferences taught on the land based on the native traditions and understanding of indigenous peoples. Various instructors and teachers will lead classes and ceremony exploring native traditional ideas of healing and walking in a good way on Mother Earth. We honor all faiths and native traditions but will be featuring teachings from the Ojibway, Crow and the Huichol peoples of the Seirra Madre. 6) SomaVeda™ Thai Reishi Hand and Hatha Yoga Certification Program: Aachan has taught these movements informally since 1978. Now, practice, learn and teach all of the movements! 7) Progressive Integrative Karate (PIK) and Buddhai Sawan style Kabri Kabrong: Martial Arts: By popular request! In Thai Martial Arts and Traditional Sword fighting, Aachan James was a personal apprentice of the late grand Master Phaa Khruu Samaii Mesamarn of the Buddhai Sawan Institute in Nongkam, Thailand (1984). He is a 5th degree Black Belt in American Karate and Aiki-Jitsu. Since beginning training at the ripe age of eleven, he has trained and received Black Belt recognition from several famous schools and instructors (1975). He was one of the first Expert Instructors to be Certified in Filipino Stick Fighting Arts under Grand Master Leo T. Gaje Jr. of Visyan, Filipines, Danny Inosanto of Torrence , CA and Dianesio Canete of Cebu Philipines (1981). Weekly classes and White Belt through Black Belt recognition programs will be offered. Yin Martial Arts and Taoist Chi-Gung will also be offered.

Practitioner Clinic, Structured and/ or Supervised Practice Credit hours approved depends on diploma program 150 Hr., 375Hr., 500 Hr., 750 Hr., 1500 Hr., Course is self-paced allowing the individual student or practicing professional to complete a diploma program with out necessarily leaving home. Local programs are supervised by local instructors. If your state or local licensing requires you to have a diploma certifying specific hours this is the way to go.
